Erling Haaland may leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, his agent has suggested.

Borussia Dortmund could be looking at a stressful summer as Haaland continues to be linked to transfer rumors. For obvious reasons, the 21-year-old has long been a target of big-name clubs.

Three years after the Norwegian’s breakout maiden season with Borussia Dortmund, the goal machine’s agent Mino Raiola said that his client is finally nearing “the next step” in his soaring career, with Barcelona among his preferred destinations.

“Maybe this summer, maybe the summer after,” Raiola recently told Sport1 of the possibility of Haaland’s transfer. “But there is a big chance that Erling will leave this summer. We will see.”

“He can and will take the next step. Bayern [Munich], Real [Madrid], Barcelona, [Manchester] City - these are the big clubs he can go to. City have won the championship five times in the last few years, much more than [Manchester] United,” he added.

Raiola further pointed out that no matter what, Haaland’s transfer to a more globally recognized club will happen as they had already planned it even before the striker arrived at Borussia Dortmund.

“We all knew when we moved to Dortmund that this step would come,” the agent emphasized.

This wasn’t the first time Raiola has hinted at what lies ahead for his client. Last month, he revealed that “Haaland likes Spain.” Moreover, an update about his most likely landing spots might surface after the holiday season.

“At the moment you cannot talk about anything, if you want about Christmas,” he said of Haaland’s situation. “I do not talk about the market. Haaland likes Spain, he really likes his home in Spain.”

Raiola continued, “Afterwards, it is too early to say where he is going to play next year. It is not good either.”

Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, is ready to ward off interest from big-name clubs. In fact, the German side’s head of first-team football Sebastian Kehl even jokingly said he would “bet €100 million” ($112 million) that Haaland will opt to stay.

"Of course, we are trying to give him the feeling that Borussia Dortmund continues to be a top address for him and that he can still develop here,” Kehl previously told German outlet Bild. Maybe we can still convince him. We will fight for him. We will try everything. The decision has not yet been made, but I would bet €100 million [on him staying]."
