KEY POINTS

  • Ben Affleck reportedly starred in a commercial for Dunkin' Donuts
  • While filming, Affleck surprised several customers by serving their orders at the drive-thru
  • A source claimed Affleck was "heavily involved" in pitching the script and directing the ad

Ben Affleck surprised several Dunkin' Donuts customers at a Boston-based franchise while manning the drive-thru.

On Monday, the 50-year-old "Argo" director was spotted taking and handing out customer orders at the coffee shop in Medford, Massachusetts, while wearing the full employee uniform, including the Dunkin' employee T-shirt that read, "America runs on Dunkin," and a classic black visor.

One lucky customer named Lisa Mackay spoke to several media outlets, including Entertainment Tonight, NBC Boston and The Washington Post, and recalled a memorable experience while trying to get her regular order— a small, black iced coffee.

"Ben Affleck was filming a Dunkin' commercial yesterday. I was surprised and nervous when I saw him. He took my order, and I handed him $10, and he threw it right back at me and handed me my iced coffee," Mackay said.

She continued, "He was super nice, very funny, and handsome, of course. I didn't see [Jennifer Lopez], but I heard she was inside."

The "Batman" star's love for the coffee-and-doughnut chain is no secret since he has been photographed with Dunkin's signature coffee in hand over the years. Multiple photos of the fast food chain delivering to his home during the pandemic also circulated online. So, it's no surprise that a collaboration was in the works.

An unnamed source revealed to ET that Affleck was "filming a much-anticipated commercial with Dunkin' Donuts" at the time and was also "heavily involved" with the production as a scriptwriter and director.

"Ben is heavily involved in the commercial as he pitched the script, is directing and starring in it," the source said. "Ben has loved Dunkin' for years, and this partnership couldn't be more perfect. He's been very hands-on with the whole process and is excited for everyone to see."

A second source claimed that the "partnership" between Affleck and Dunkin' Donuts was "natural" and that the former was "excited about it and has been very into the campaign and commercial," adding that he was "really funny and charismatic, making everyone laugh on set."

The source noted that the award-winning actor received the full support of his wife, Lopez, who also joined him for the shoot, as seen in a behind-the-scenes video shared by fan-account @benniferstan on Instagram.

In the clip, the 53-year-old "Dinero" singer approached her husband while the production crew celebrated the end of filming. Affleck was also seen thanking the staff before the couple left the store.

Details about the release of the commercial have yet to be revealed. But according to Entertainment Weekly, the project might be an ad for the upcoming Super Bowl LVII next month.
