One of the most innovative technological developments in the last decade, the 3D printer has changed how people use printers forever.

While traditional printers can only print images, 3D printers enable people to easily turn concepts from a computer into 3D models.

When 3D printers first came out, designers used them to create product models and prototypes for testing to check if there's any need for design changes. As 3D printing became more advanced, 3D printers were eventually used to produce the final products.

From shoe designs, furniture and wax castings for tools, toys, novelty items to model kits for hobbyists, these can all be produced through 3D printers. Other industries have also caught on the technology, as the automotive and aviation industries use 3D printers to make parts. Similarly, archaeologists and paleontologists also use 3D printers to create replicas and models. It's also being used in the medical industry for prosthetics, bone grafts and much more.

But what if you want to try 3D printing for your personal use at home? Well, you'll be glad to know that there are a lot of available options out there but our recommendation goes to the Sermoon V1 Pro 3D Printer.

V1 Pro 3D Printer: 3D Printing At Its Finest?

If you look up affordable options for 3D printers online, chances are, you'll come across the Sermoon V1 Pro 3D Printer

Creality's newest addition to their line of popular 3D printers, the Sermoon V1 Pro offers a refined take on the enclosed model design. It's a 3D printer that's very user-friendly and supports printing with ABS and PLA filaments. This makes it ideal for anyone who wants to try 3D printing at home.

Here's what else it offers.

Design and Features

Let's start with the design. First, you'd be pleased to know that size-wise, you won't have trouble fitting this 3D printer even in small spaces. That's because the Sermoon V1 Pro is about the size of small home appliances, thanks to its enclosed design.

The only other thing you have to think of is the spool of filament that's hanging outside this 3D printer, as it adds an extra 120mm to its width, which is still not a lot.

As the fully-enclosed design makes it safer and quieter, this is still a fair trade-off, even with the smaller build volume (175mm square on the X/Y, 165mm tall).

Unpacking it is also incredibly easy, as it requires little construction. Simply cut the cable ties, peel off the protective plastic from the acrylic, remove the bob of foam that protects the Z-axis inside and it's ready to use.

As for the design, it looks very sleek. It also has an intuitive touchscreen and an SD card slot.

Here are some of its other notable features:

Magnetic Print Bed – One of the Sermoon V1 Pro's notable features is its heated printer bed that has a magnetic PEI-coated steel sheet to improve overall adhesion of any print, minimizing the risk of items falling over and getting ruined. What's more, this magnetic print bed makes it easy to remove and snap off any print once cooled, which minimizes the risk of ruining a perfectly good print.

Wi-Fi and Webcam – The Sermoon V1 Pro has Wi-Fi connectivity and a 1080p webcam. Its Wi-Fi connection lets you print directly from your smartphone via the Creality Cloud app. Connect to Wi-Fi, choose your favorite models on Creality Cloud App, and click to slice and share.

The webcam allows you to remotely view what's being printed in real-time, with the option to check your print progress. It also has internal lighting that's automatically activated while viewing the camera feed and you can also control it at any point using its touchscreen.

Moreover, every print you make is automatically recorded and saved to the SD card but previous recordings will get overwritten once you run out of space.

Sprite Extruder – The Sermoon V1 Pro also takes advantage of Creality's patented "sprite" design of direct-drive dual-gear extruder, which ensures less slipping for feeding filament. It also uses a Bowden tube, making for an interesting hybrid design that guarantees no snags while providing the benefits of a direct-drive extruder system.

The extruder can be heated up to 250 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for filaments like ABS, PETG and PLA. Feeding and retracting the filament is done via a single button, making for a very smooth experience, even for beginners.

Zero-Leveling – The Sermoon V1 Pro requires leveling calibration. However, it arrives already pre-leveled, so you don't need to manually level it for the first few prints. This should help you get accustomed to the process until you need to start manually leveling for future prints.

The five-point build surface calibration via software may be needed. Once leveling is done, it may not need to be leveled again for a long time or months.

The leveling process for the V1 Pro is a standard five-point affair, making it very simple. While auto-leveling is a great feature, you won't have any problems with leveling calibration as well.

Performance

3D printers aren't known for being quiet, so you'd be pleased to know that it's not the case with the Sermoon V1 Pro. Thanks to its enclosed design and silent mainboard, which helps minimize noise. It also offers a "Silent Operation" mode, which keeps the noise at a fair 45dB.

While still far from being "noiseless," you can still work in the same room as your printer without getting bothered by its sound. Turning on the case fans increases the sound to around 60dB, which is still tolerable.

All that noise should result in good output and you'd be glad to know that the Sermoon V1 Pro is excellent overall, even when used with different filaments.

Right off the box, the prints are generally nicer, with minimal stringing. Further calibration of the e-steps should lead to significantly cleaner prints, although waiting time increases as well.

One of the key factors behind this is its enclosed design, which allows all the heat to be retained, increasing the ambient temperature to keep the process consistent. This is also the reason behind its ability to easily print using ABS plastic.

As for the software it uses to prepare printing jobs, Creality has a slicing tool called Creality Slicer, which is just as powerful as the more famous, Ultimaker Cura Tool. This makes preparing models, settings and other printing requirements easier. Once your files are ready, you can transfer them via SD card or via Wi-Fi to start printing.

Last but not least, the Sermoon V1 Pro's automatic door pauses printing when you open it. Activated via a series of magnets, this door makes it very child- and beginner-friendly, making it a more attractive option for home use.
