American singer-actress Bette Midler's over five-decade career encompasses multiple successes on stage, the big screen and in the recording industry. She is a multi-millionaire at age 76.

Midler was born on Dec. 1, 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii. After graduating from high school in 1963, she studied drama at the University of Hawaii at Manoa but dropped out after three semesters.

She soon landed work in the 1966 film "Hawaii," where she appeared as a seasick passenger.

Midler moved to New York City in mid-1965 and began studying with German-American actress and theater practitioner Uta Hagen at HB Studio.

Later that year, she appeared in the Broadway plays "Miss Nefertiti Regrets" and "Cinderella Revisited.” By 1966, she was on Broadway playing Tzeitel in "Fiddler on the Roof."

Her debut album, produced by Barry Manilow and released in 1972, titled “The Divine Miss M,” went Platinum in the U.S. and Canada.

Since then, Midler released 13 more studio albums and four soundtracks, including the three-time Platinum "Beaches" soundtrack and two-time Platinum soundtrack for "The Rose.”

Aside from acting in theater and singing, Midler has also proven herself to be a capable actress in a string of drama and comedy films.

She appeared in the 1982 comedy film “Jinxed,” 2012’s “Parental Guidance,” 1993’s “Hocus Pocus” and the 1988 film “Beaches,” among others.

She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording in 1985.
