‘Big Little Lies’
Will Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) get to meet new people in “Big Little Lies” Season 2? HBO

“Big Little Lies” Season 2 still hasn’t received the green light from HBO, but cast member and executive producer Reese Witherspoon recently gave fans an exciting update about the possible second installment.

While speaking with E! News, Witherspoon revealed that two actors, who also happen to be her friends in the industry, asked to star in the hit series. “I have gotten two really interesting calls, but we’ll see what happens,” she said. When asked to divulge the identities of the celebrities, Witherspoon said, “No, I can’t say!”

A few weeks ago, the “Home Again” actress told the same publication that Season 2 is all up to book author Liane Moriarty. “We’re talking about it, but it’s sort of up to the writer Liane Moriarty,” she said.

Last month, HBO programming president Casey Bloys seconded Witherspoon’s response about the fate of Season 2. “Liane taking her crack at it and I think that it’s interesting. I don’t think there’s been a time when we’ve gone to the writer of the novel, the source material, to come up with like, ‘Do you see ongoing stories?’ I’ll be very curious to see what she comes up with that. Normally you go to a TV writer, and say, ‘What do you see?’” he told E! News.

Meanwhile, the critically acclaimed TV series received a total of 16 Emmy nominations this year. Witherspoon and her co-star, Nicole Kidman, are both nominated in the outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie category. The series also earned an outstanding limited series nomination, while Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Alexander Skarsagard are nominated in the outstanding supporting actress and actor categories, respectively.

“Big Little Lies” Season 1 wrapped up with a cliffhanger since the fate of the five female characters after getting rid of Celeste’s (Kidman) abusive husband, Perry (Skarsgard), was not revealed. The final scene of the series showed Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz), Celeste, Renata (Dern), Jane (Woodley) and Madeline (Witherspoon) basking under the sun at the beach. Their children are also playing and running around together.

If Season 2 will be renewed for next year, the five female characters may or may not be implicated for Perry’s murder.
