They say that the third time's the charm, and, for billionaire investor George Soros, it may just ring true after the 82-year-old proposed to his third wife-to-be, 40-year-old Tamiko Bolton, on Sunday.

Soros announced the engagement at his birthday party held at the octogenarian's summer home in Southampton, N.Y., a person familiar with the investor told Reuters.

The marriage will be Soros' third and Bolton's second, after the Web-based yoga business woman was briefly married in the 1990s.

Soros has five children from his previous marriages.

Soros, who made his name and fortune nearly breaking the Bank of England over the devaluation of the pound in 1992, has had a troubled past when it comes to women.

Only last year, former girlfriend and Brazilian soap opera star, Adriana Ferreyr, filed a lawsuit alleging he had reneged on a promise to buy her an apartment.

Soros has filed a pending motion to dismiss the suit, Reuters reported.

"I wish him the best of luck on his marriage, and now that he doesn't need the apartment, hopefully the case can be resolved," Ferreyr's attorney, Robert Hantman, said.

According to Reuters, Soros gave Bolton a Graff diamond in a platinum setting on a rose gold band.

Earlier this year, Soros's son, Jonathan, decided to step down from the day-to-day management of Soros Fund Management and set up on his own.
