Bitcoin Keeps Hovering in the Same Range. These 5 Cryptocurrencies Are Showing More Volatility.
Privacy-focused tokens, decentralized trading platforms and blockchain infrastructure projects are attracting interest despite a mixed market.

Bitcoin was trading near $81,000 Wednesday as cryptocurrency traders looked for signs of another sustained rally, with several altcoins drawing attention through price swings, technological developments and growing interest in decentralized financial services.
Zcash, Dash, Hyperliquid, Bitcoin Cash and NEAR Protocol are among the cryptocurrencies attracting interest, although their recent performance has varied considerably. Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency, hovered near $2,345, with both it and Bitcoin trading below their levels from a week earlier.
The broader cryptocurrency market rebounded during the third quarter, with total market capitalization rising 39.6% to approximately $3 trillion, ending three consecutive quarters of declines, according to CoinGecko's industry analysis. However, average daily trading volume fell 8.6% from the previous quarter, while spot trading on centralized exchanges declined 14.2%.
Among the five tokens, Zcash (ZEC) has attracted attention for its focus on financial privacy. It traded around $1,300 Wednesday, with a market capitalization exceeding $20 billion and daily trading volume approaching $800 million.
Unlike Bitcoin, whose transactions are recorded on a publicly accessible blockchain, Zcash allows users to conceal details such as the sender, recipient and amount through cryptographic technology.
Use of those features has also increased. Nearly 5 million ZEC were held in shielded pools in September, representing approximately 23% of the cryptocurrency's circulating supply at the time, according to data examined by The Block. The figure measures use of the network's privacy features rather than establishing what drove its recent price movements.
Dash (DASH) has also been expanding its privacy technology. The cryptocurrency traded near $53 Wednesday, with a market value of approximately $686 million.
In August, Dash introduced shielded transactions on its Evolution mainnet, allowing users to conceal certain payment details. The upgrade builds on technology developed for Zcash and forms part of Dash's efforts to improve its payment and wallet services.
The project said the new functionality was designed to combine transaction privacy with faster settlement in an official development announcement.
While Zcash and Dash focus on payments and privacy, Hyperliquid (HYPE) operates in decentralized derivatives trading, allowing users to trade cryptocurrency futures and other products without relying on a conventional centralized exchange.
HYPE traded between $80 and $82 Wednesday after a substantial rally earlier in the year. The token climbed 40.5% over four days in August following developments concerning potential access to U.S. markets. It subsequently reached a record $98 on September 23, according to CoinGecko's third-quarter report.
Trading activity also expanded, with the platform's average daily volume increasing 35.2% during the quarter to approximately $850 million.
Bitcoin Cash (BCH), meanwhile, has drawn attention through short-term price gains rather than a major new technological or regulatory announcement.
The cryptocurrency traded around $290 Wednesday after rising approximately 4% to 5% in earlier market snapshots. Its market capitalization approached $6 billion.
Bitcoin Cash emerged from a split with Bitcoin in 2017 and was designed to support peer-to-peer digital payments. Its blockchain allows larger blocks than Bitcoin's original design, enabling more transactions to be processed within each block.
No single verified development has been established as the cause of its latest price movement.
The fifth cryptocurrency, NEAR Protocol (NEAR), focuses on blockchain infrastructure supporting decentralized applications and transactions across different networks.
NEAR traded between $4.60 and $4.70 Wednesday, with daily trading volume approaching $470 million.
One of its projects, NEAR Intents, is designed to simplify transactions between blockchains. Users specify the outcome they want, while the system handles the technical steps required to complete it.
However, the platform suffered a security incident on Oct. 1 when a vulnerability involving its deposit and withdrawal infrastructure resulted in approximately $3.8 million being compromised. Affected services were temporarily suspended, and the team subsequently said it had patched the vulnerability and recovered the funds.
Beyond developments involving individual tokens, Bitcoin's performance remains an important factor in the broader cryptocurrency market.
U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $176 million in net inflows on Oct. 27, including $151.5 million into BlackRock's IBIT and $24.5 million into Fidelity's FBTC.
Despite those inflows, Glassnode's Oct. 28 on-chain analysis found that Bitcoin had repeatedly struggled to maintain prices above $84,000 to $85,000 during 2026.
The research also identified declining ETF trading activity and lower volatility, with buying interest on Binance concentrated around $78,000 to $79,000. Glassnode said volatility had fallen to levels last seen in the summer of 2023.
Derivatives trading, however, has expanded more rapidly. Open interest in perpetual futures on centralized exchanges increased 40.6% during the third quarter, exceeding $100 billion, even as spot trading volumes declined.
