Dwayne Johnson is all set to play the titular role in the “Black Adam” solo movie. The character was supposed to be introduced in “Shazam,” but the filmmakers later decided to give a big introduction for the super villain from the DC comic books with his own film.

Johnson himself announced Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra as the director of “Black Adam” on Instagram previously. The two of them have worked together on the film “Jungle Cruise,” which has wrapped filming and is in the post production phase of development. The director is known for his film “The Shallows.”

Commenting on Collet-Serra’s work, Johnson said that he is “very impressed” with the director’s “passion, work ethic, style, vision, tone and quality.” The actor also added that Collet-Serra is “hungry to break new ground” with the DC film, and he is preparing to give the fans “something very cool and special.”

“I raise a double tequila _ welcoming Jaume and can’t wait to bring to life the world’s anti-hero in black,” Johnson wrote.

It’s been two months since Johnson wrote about the director, and work for “Black Adam” is now picking up pace. In a recent interview with Collider, the president of Seven Bucks Productions Hiram Garcia confirmed that they are planning to begin filming by the end of next year.

Just as the fans are eagerly waiting for the film, so is Garcia. The success of “Shazam” has given the filmmakers the confidence to start building what Garcia called “this section of the DC universe.”

Shazam and Black Adam will be the two lead characters of this world the filmmakers are trying to build. Fans who are looking forward for the two characters to meet will have to wait for a while. Zachary Levi said in a statement at the CCXP Cologne Convention previously that a crossover may only happen in his third film and after Johnson is finished with a sequel of his solo movie, Screen Rant reported.
