Blackpink made history after selling over one million copies of its first full-length album, “The Album.” Fans took to social media to congratulate the singers for becoming the first-ever million-selling K-pop girl group.

Blackpink's label, YG Entertainment, announced that over 1.2 million copies of “The Album” have been sold as of Monday, Korea JoongAng Daily reported.

The figure includes domestic sales of nearly 871,355 and the 319,300 units sold in Europe and the U.S. Moreover, the 18,888 copies of the limited edition vinyl LP version were also sold out shortly after being released.

This achievement has made Blackpink, which consists of Lisa, Rosé, Jisoo and Jennie, the first Korean girl group to sell more than 1 million copies of an album.

Breaking record after record, “The Album” topped the iTunes Top Albums chart in 57 countries when it dropped on Oct. 2. It also debuted no. 2 on both the Billboard 200 and the U.K.'s Official Charts’ albums chart.

Four weeks after its release, “The Album” is currently at no. 10 on the Billboard 200. This also makes Blackpink the first K-pop girl group to stay in the top 10 of the albums chart for three consecutive weeks.

Blackpink became a trending topic on Twitter after YG Entertainment announced the group's latest achievement. Fans of the girl group have been taking to social media to congratulate the members.

“@BLACKPINK & Taylor Swift are the only female acts this 2020 to have a 'pure' million seller albums worldwide,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

“The Biggest Girl Group in the world sold 1.2M pure physical copies in 3 weeks. Blackpink million seller,” wrote another fan.

Blackpink, who entered the K-pop industry in 2016, has collaborated with Dua Lipa for the single “Kiss and Make Up” and Lady Gaga with “Sour Candy.”

Lisa, Rosé, Jisoo and Jennie performed at Coachella in 2019 and also collaborated with Selena Gomez for the track “Ice Cream.” The song has gone on to garner more than 300 million views since its release in August. The Korean girl group last collaborated with Cardi B for “Bet You Wanna” from their latest album.

Netflix recently released a documentary on Blackpink, titled "Light Up the Sky," which tells the story of the dizzying rise to fame of the all-girl K-pop band group.
