“Gossip Girl” alum Blake Lively has been cast in “The Husband’s Secret.”

According to Variety, “The Husband’s Secret” will be based on author Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same title. The film will follow the life of a wife and mother who discovers that her husband has been keeping a huge secret from her all these years. Lively’s character will soon realize that her life and relationship has been built on lies.

CBS Films will be producing “The Husband’s Secret,” and CBS Films President Terry Press released a statement following Lively’s casting. “Liane Moriarty has established herself as one of the defining voices of the modern woman and Blake Lively’s unique combination of vulnerability, strength and extraordinary talent makes her the perfect actress to realize Moriarty’s creation,” the statement read.

Mark Ross and Alex Ginno will be overseeing “The Husband’s Secret” for CBS Films. The production company acquired the rights to Moriarty’s book in 2013 even before HBO picked up her other work, “Big Little Lies,” for television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the success of the Nicole Kidman-starrer encouraged CBS Films to prioritize “The Husband’s Secret.”

Meanwhile, “Big Little Lies” Season 1 wrapped up on Apr 2. Following its successful seven-episode run, there were rumors that the network will pick up the series for a second season. Just last week, cast member Reese Witherspoon appeared on the “Ellen Show” (via the Daily Mail) to dish on the fate of the mystery drama. When asked by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres if Season 2 is already a go, the actress said, “We hope so!”

“I mean Nicole and I produced it as well so we’ve been talking to the writer, Liane Moriarty, who wrote the book, about new ideas and what these characters can do. But it seems like people just love these characters. Hopefully we can go on,” she said.

Earlier this month, Witherspoon also posted a photo of herself with Kidman and Laura Dern via her Instagram account. The photo hyped up rumors of a possible Season 2 since the actress captioned the snap, saying, “Working on some new lies.”
