BMW has unveiled its all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, joining the likes of the existing Convertible and Coupe in the expanded range of 6 Series models.

Previously seen as a concept car at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, this third installment is the first of its kind in the 6 Series.

BMW will release the new coupe in three variants: The 640d has a 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo diesel engine with 313 hp and 630 Nm of torque from 2,500 rpm; the 640i has a 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine with 320 hp and 450 Nm between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm; and the all-wheel-drive 650i has a V-8 TwinPower Turbo that can crank out 450 hp and 650 Nm of torque from 4,500 rpm.

Despite the engine size, fuel economy is the best for the last variant with an average between 9.2 and 9.4 liters per 100 kilometers, the company said in a press release.

The features of the car include comfort-oriented rear seat backrest angle, Dakota leather upholstery, auto start-stop function, dynamic damper control, automatic dimming of exterior and rear-view mirrors, and 2-zone automatic climate control.

The car is expected to go on sale in the United States next summer.
