Legendary WWE manager and commentator Bobby "The Brain" Heenan died Sunday from cancer related complications at the age of 73, WWE announced on its official website.

Born Raymond Louis Heenan in Chicago, he was considered by most wrestling experts as the greatest pro-wrestling manager of all time.

Following Heenan's death, WWE issued the following statement: "WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Bobby Heenan, regarded by many as the greatest manager in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 73. With a career spanning more than four decades, Bobby Heenan was the 'The Brain' behind some of the most prolific Superstars in sports-entertainment history. Heenan plied his trade as their mischievous manager by running his mouth on their behalf with a sarcastic wit considered among the best in the business."

According to reports, he was diagnosed with tongue and throat cancer in 2002 and spent the past few years fighting the disease. He lost the ability to talk after multiple surgeries were conducted on his tongue and for the reconstruction of his lower jaw.

Members of the wrestling community paid tributes to the late star and posted their condolences on Twitter after the news of his death.
