The final twelve chapters of “Bones” will air soon. The Fox series will be back in 2017 with Season 12.

Consisting of twelve episodes, the long-running crime series will wrap up the storylines of FBI Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), Booth’s wife Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), entomologist Jack Hodgins (T.J. Thyne), Hodgins’ wife Angela (Michaela Conlin), Dr. Camille/Cam Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) and FBI Agent James Aubrey (John Boyd) in the upcoming season.

So, how will the series finale of “Bones” conclude the show? Will Booth and Brennan, walk away from the FBI -- a move they undertook in much like the Season 10 finale? Will Brennan leave the Jeffersonian for good?

“Bones” co-showrunner Michael Peterson told TVLine that one thing Booth and Brennan won’t do is start a new, less dangerous life. We did that in the Season 10 finale,” he said. “And since we don’t like repeating ourselves, it [forced] us to brainstorm a different [conclusion].”

The swan song of “Bones” (the series finale) is titled “The End In The End.”

Boreanaz dropped clues on his Twitter account that the series finale will take the crime fighting from the field to the lab.

When the series returns, Booth will be desperately search for his wife who was kidnapped by none other than former squintern Zack Addy (Eric Millegan) at the end of the last season. “Bones” made it seem like Zack is the notorious serial killer known as The Puppeteer, but the reason why he kidnapped his former boss will be made clearer when the season premieres. The Season 12 premiere photos certainly don’t seem to hint that he is a mass murderer.

The final season will feature a wedding and a slew of guest stars are scheduled to make appearances in the upcoming episodes.

“Bones” Season 12, episode 1, titled “The Final Chapter: The Hope In The Horror,” premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
