  • Floyd Mayweather was ripped by Dillian Whyte for "cherry-picking" his fights
  • Whyte criticized Mayweather's blockbuster bout against Conor McGregor in 2017
  • Whyte wants to become the greatest combat athlete of all time

Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have hung his gloves up but his retirement from the sport could not quite give him the immunity to escape flak from active boxers. The latest to rip the undefeated icon is heavyweight star Dillian Whyte, who called the 43-year-old out for “cherry-picking” his fights and compromising quality bouts for money.

Whyte, perhaps, could put up a list to back his claim. But instead, the British fighter specifically pointed out Mayweather’s blockbuster showdown against MMA superstar Conor McGregor in 2017, slamming it for its lack of unpredictability as he claimed that the American already had the victory in his bag even before the fight started.

The verbal jabs are not surprising coming from Whyte. While he did not mince words on Mayweather, it was clear that his intention was not to lure Money out of retirement but to boast himself as he looks forward to making his own combat crossover to the MMA to fight UFC contender Francis Ngannou.

“I want to fight the best,” Whyte said in an interview with ‘The AK and Barak Show‘ on Sirius XM, via World Boxing News. “A lot of guys cherry-pick, like Floyd Mayweather with Conor McGregor. We all knew Floyd was going to beat McGregor. Anyone with any sense knows in a boxing match Floyd’s going to beat him because Connor ain’t got the skill.

“But I am trying to make this thing happen with someone who is competitive and someone who can win in Francis Ngannou. He can win a boxing match against me because he carries power and he’s active. Also, he’s young and he’s fresh. He has an air of invincibility about him. We said we will do one in the ring and one in the cage.”

Whyte is right on the verge of seizing a heavyweight boxing title as he has been pitted against Tyson Fury, the WBC Champ. But the Body Snatcher stressed that capturing a belt in boxing is not his ultimate goal.

Whyte dares to be different as he does the unconventional approach to greatness. For someone who was founded under the lights of kickboxing, Whyte said that he aims to become the greatest combat athlete of all time.
