  • Saunders fight with Alvarez imperiled
  • Saunders boxing license suspended
  • Alvarez vs. Golovkin III got major boost

Billy Joe Saunders knows that his upcoming fight against Canelo Alvarez on Cinco De Mayo weekend is likely to be pushed back. But no thanks to his recent actions, the English boxer may find himself waiting longer after his boxing license was suspended for a video mocking domestic violence.

Just recently, the 30-year-old pug released a video showing men how to beat their girlfriends during the coronavirus pandemic. Saunders even demonstrated to men how to hit women in the chin when they speak back to them. Some who were able to watch the video treated as a "dark" joke although the message being sent was pretty controversial. That included the British Boxing Board of Control who suspended him indefinitely, TMZ Sports reported.

"The British Boxing Board of Control having considered comments made by Billy Joe Saunders on social media have suspended his boxer’s license pending a hearing under the Board’s misconduct regulation, at a time and venue to be confirmed as soon as possible." the BBB of C said in a statement.

Saunders's actions have drawn the ire of several people, including boxer Clareesa Shields and promote Eddie Hearn. This is not the first time Saunders has posted a controversial video. In 2018, a video of him asking a woman to perform a sex act in return for drugs came out it cost him £100,000.

With his fight against Alvarez unlikely on May 2, the word out was that it could be pushed back either June or further. But at the rate things are going on right now, even that could end up getting canceled. In a previous post, it was mentioned how the camps of Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin are planning to stage a trilogy - originally something that could go down after the Alvarez vs. Saunders clash on Cinco de Mayo.

But with that bout likely being called off, there was a chance that Saunders would have to wait until after the Alvarez vs. Golovkin III. Thanks to his actions, Saunders just made things easier for the two boxing icons to face off next. Unfortunately, it may have cost him a big fight with the Mexican Brawler whom he claims he can defeat.
