  • Cain Velasquez pens a message of gratitude to his supporters after his recent hearing
  • The former UFC heavyweight champion has been in jail since March due to attempted murder
  • His plea hearing is scheduled to happen on May 6

Incarcerated mixed martial arts (MMA) star Cain Velasquez has finally broken his silence and issued an emotional message of gratitude to everyone who has supported him thus far.

“To everyone that has expressed your support, my family and I will never be able to thank you enough. From the bottom of our hearts and the depths of our souls, we are forever grateful for your love. Your selfless gestures and kind words have given me strength in my darkest times,” Velasquez wrote in a Twitter post.

The former UFC heavyweight champion’s ordeal with the law kickstarted back in early March after he chased, rammed a vehicle, and shot a man who was charged with lewd acts with a child.

The man, later identified as Harry Goularte, was targeted by Velasquez because one of his victims was a close relative.

Many believe that Velasquez’s actions were justified and had even began the “Free Cain” movement on social media, with many of his fellow MMA athletes campaigning for his release.

Velaquez’s lawyer Mark Geragos went before the court and requested that his client’s plea hearing be pushed back to May 6, a motion that was granted by Judge Jose S. Franco.

The celebrity attorney is aiming to file another motion, this time to have him released between now and the newly-scheduled court date.

“This story is complex and slowly unravelling as we speak. To the true victims of this case, may God give you the strength to come forward. Though it is most difficult to relive the pain that has happened to you, in speaking the truth, justice will be served and your own true healing will start,” Velazquez later said in the same statement.

Saying that the story is complex can be seen as Velasquez hinting that there is so much more to the situation than what has been revealed thus far.

In closing, Velasquez had one last message for his supporters.

“I will never stop helping or loving my community and all of you. Thank you for loving me,” he stated.
