Since the discovery of cooking, man has been looking for ways to improve the taste of the meat they cook. From salting it to introducing different kinds of food into the meats diet. Each method is more creative than the last and such is the case with the newest way of preparing pork.

Moto Perpetuo Farm is a farm based in Forest Grove, Oregon that grows cannabis. However, they are now gaining popularity due to the unorthodox diet of their pigs.

The diet of the pigs at Moto Perpetuo Farm involves cannabis leaves, specifically the byproduct from the marijuana being grown by Moto Perpetuo Farm. Pigs have similar CBD receptors as humans so a very important question would be whether or not these pigs are getting high.

Moto Perpetuo Farm assured that the pigs don’t get high as THC would need to undergo a process of change in order for it to be psychoactive, and the pigs are merely being fed marijuana byproducts.

Moto Perpetuo Farm uses the byproducts from their marijuana for the pigs. This is done by first harvesting whatever can be used for processing and feeding the rest to the pigs. According to Dave Hoyle, owner of Moto Perpetuo farm, the pigs were seen to have an increased appetite and were gaining weight faster compared to the pigs being fed the same ration without cannabis.

Dave Hoyle also stated that he thought up the idea when he realized that the marijuana he grew produced a lot of waste. He then found a way to benefit both him and the pigs by feeding the byproduct to them.

However, the cannabis present in the diet of these pigs is not consistent and varies by season. It also relies heavily on the availability of the material.

Imperial, a restaurant based in Portland, Oregon, uses the pigs from Moto Perpetuo. Chef Vitaly Paley, the owner, and Matthew Jarrell, an executive chef at Imperial, worked together to find the best way to prepare the weed-fed pigs. The meat from these pigs has been described to be juicy, with a more resistant texture, and that it generally tastes like a healthier animal.
