KEY POINTS

  • Two intriguing matches headlined the second card in the 2022 PFL season
  • Bruno Cappelozza stopped Stuart Austin by TKO in the main event
  • Chris Wade outpointed Lance Palmer in the co-main event

Bruno Cappelozza continued his reign of dominance, kicking off his 2022 campaign with a first-round TKO of Stuart Austin in the main event of PFL 2 on Thursday night, April 28 at the Esports Stadium Arlington in Arlington, Texas.

Cappelozza, the 2021 PFL heavyweight Champion, shut Austin down from the opening bell and took the fight to the ground.

From there, Cappelozza transitioned into mount and finished Austin off with ground-and-pound.

The Brazilian improved to five-straight wins under the PFL banner, and he picked up six points in the 2022 heavyweight rankings.

In the co-main event, 2021 featherweight runner-up Chris Wade began his 2022 season with an impressive win over former two-time titleholder Lance Palmer.

Wade and Palmer went back and forth for three rounds, but in the end, it was the former who got the nod on the judges’ scorecards with 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 marks across the board.

With the victory, Wade remained undefeated in PFL Regular Season bouts and earned three points to help his push for a fourth consecutive postseason appearance.

Palmer, meanwhile, dropped his last three matches.

Opening the main card in spectacular fashion was heavyweight Renan Ferreira, who needed just 25 seconds to knock out 2021 semifinalist Jamelle Jones.

Ferreira landed a well-placed knee that dropped Jones before ending the bout with piston-like punches.

His 25-second smashing of Jones not only earned him six points in the heavyweight rankings but also set the record for the fastest knockout in PFL heavyweight history.

The previous record was at 31 seconds, which was also set by the heavy-handed Ferreira.

Also picking up wins were featherweight semifinalists Brendan Loughnane and Bubba Jenkins.

PFL returns to action on Friday, May 6th, featuring bouts in the welterweight and women’s lightweight divisions.
