KEY POINTS

  • The company is issuing the recall "out of an abundance of caution"
  • One of its 3rd party suppliers issued a recall over possible microbial contamination
  • Customers are advised to "dispose" of the recalled products

King's Hawaiian is voluntarily recalling certain pretzel bites and buns products due to the "potential for microbial contamination." The issuance is related to a recent recall by Lyons Magnus.

The recall affects King's Hawaiian Pretzel Slider Buns, Pretzel Hamburger Buns and Pretzel Bites, the company noted in an announcement on the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) website.

According to the company, it is issuing the recall "out of an abundance of caution" after one of its suppliers, Lyons Magnus, recently recalled an ingredient that it uses on the pretzel products due to a potential for microbial contamination. This includes the potential for Cronobacter sakazakii as well as Clostridium botulinum, which "may cause a severe form of food poisoning."

So far, no pathogens have been found in "any" King's Hawaiian products, and neither have there been any reports of illnesses related to them, the company noted. However, it has chosen to push through with the recall "to ensure consumer safety."

"This recall does not impact any other King's Hawaiian products, as no other products use this ingredient from Lyons Magnus," the company noted. "King's Hawaiian will resume producing all pretzel products once the company has ensured all current product has been disposed of and has confirmed the safety of all ingredients."

The complete description of the products is available on both the FDA website and the company's announcements, including the affected UPC and Lot Codes.

Those who have the recalled products are advised to dispose of them. They may also contact the company at 877-695-4227 if they have any questions about the recall or to find out how to get a replacement.

As for the Lyons Magnus recall, after the initial recall in July, which affected more than 50 nutritional and beverage products, more were pulled earlier in August in the expanded recall. This included products such as protein shakes, nutrition shakes and oat milk under various brand names including Glucerna Original, Oatly and Organic Valley.

Customers may find more details about the expanded Lyons Magnus recall on the FDA website. Those with questions about it may also contact the company 24/7 at 1-800-627-0557.
