KEY POINTS

  • Aubameyang joined Barcelona on a free transfer in January
  • He spent four and a half seasons at Arsenal
  • Tuchel has shortlisted Aubameyang as he wants to strengthen Chelsea's attack

Chelsea have reportedly made their "last offer" for FC Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the ongoing summer window.

Chelsea's offer is around $20 million for Aubameyang, which does not include the variables, reported Spanish outlet SPORT. It also claimed that Barcelona may continue to push the Blues to improve their proposal but an agreement could soon be reached between the two clubs.

Barcelona and Chelsea are once again going to be in contact Thursday as there is no deal in place as yet, according to Fabrizio Romano, who has a credible record in the European transfer market.

The last 12 months have been nothing but a rollercoaster ride for Aubameyang. In the first half of the 2021-22 season, he had a major setback at Arsenal as he was stripped of the captaincy and expelled from the squad. Later on, he was released from his contract and he moved on a free transfer to Barcelona in the 2022 January window.

Despite making only 23 competitive appearances for the rest of the season at Camp Nou, Aubameyang finished the campaign as Barcelona's joint top scorer. However, with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski, the Gabonese player is believed to have fallen down Xavi Hernandez's pecking order. Aubameyang did not start in Barcelona's opening La Liga game against Rayo Sociedad. He came off the bench and was on the field for barely eight minutes.

Initially, the 33-year-old was hesitant about joining Chelsea, but it looks like the Gabonese soccer star has agreed to a return to the Premier League, according to The Hard Tackle.

Aubameyang had a fine run in England as he spent four and a half seasons at Arsenal. He netted 92 competitive goals in 163 games for the Gunners. He won the FA Cup with Arsenal in the 2019-20 season, while he was also a part of the Emirates side that finished runners-up in the 2018-19 Europa League.

Chelsea are interested in Aubameyang as Thomas Tuchel is looking to strengthen his attack before the end of the summer window. They have lost Romelu Lukaku, who left the club on loan this summer, and Timo Werner, who returned to RB Leipzig on a permanent transfer.

Tuchel has shortlisted Aubameyang having already worked with him at Borrusia Dortmund.
