KEY POINTS

  • Romelu Lukaku could leave Inter Milan following Antonio Conte's exit
  • Chelsea could make a bid to reunite with Lukaku
  • The Blues need more firepower, with their current offensive line faring badly

Chelsea knows it needs to add more firepower by next season, and the Blues do have a couple of targets in mind.

While the names of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland ring a bell, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic has his eyes set on former Blues striker Romelu Lukaku.

In a report from the Sunday World, it was mentioned that the Blues have Lukaku and Jadon Sancho among their list of targets this transfer window.

But given that the two players will have expressive price tags, there are doubts cast. But considering that the Belgian striker is a favorite of Abramovic, there is the growing belief the club officials would be willing to strike a deal.

It would be best to note that this claim was made earlier this month. But with the sudden exit of Antonio Conte from Inter Milan, some see it as an opening for other teams like Chelsea to cash in.

The parting of ways is said to have stemmed in part from Inter Milan’s plan to sell roughly $98 million worth of players this summer.

Right now, the Blues are banking on stars like Jorginho and Timo Werner. But even with a talent-laden roster, head coach Thomas Tuchel needs players who can properly fit into his system by next season.

It appears Lukaku is one of the top players that Abramovic feels can provide some spark.

Lukaku has established himself as one of the top stars today in Italy. That included helping guide Nerrazzuri to the Serie A title with 24 goals and 11 assists this season.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo is ahead of the Belgian striker with 29 goals for Juventus.

For the Blues to take in Lukaku, the need to dispose of surplus players would be needed.

Among the names expected to move out include Kepa Arrizabalaga, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham.

The 28-year-old footballer has been linked to a return to Stamford Bridge on several occasions.

However, Lukaku continues to downplay these claims and maintains he is happy with Inter Milan.

He made those comments after Nerazzuirri won the Serie A title. But the Conte exit may change the complexion entirely, Sky Sports reported.
