KEY POINTS

  • Willian is considering a return to Chelsea next season
  • Willian may have to fight for a slot at Chelsea
  • Inter Milan could be another option for Willian this summer

Willian Borges da Silva is contracted with Arsenal until 202, but it appears the Brazilian will be allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium if he desires.

There are several teams taking interest in the 32-year-old player, and one of them is a team he played for last season in Chelsea.

A return to the Blues would be unsurprising, considering that Willian was someone who made his mark at Stamford Bridge.

To recall, it was an issue tied to the years in his contract that saw negotiations fall through.

He got that wish with the Gunners, but it seems he is weighing his options this summer transfer window, Sky Sports reported.

However, Chelsea is not the only team keeping tabs on Willian. Inter Miami is believed to be interested in taking in the Brazilian winger.

With Arsenal expected to be busy trying to retool the squad, he could be one of the players leaving the Gunners.

Other players who are speculated to be on their way out include David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette and possibly Eddie Nketiah.

But even if these three players leave the Emirates Stadium, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has a lot of manpower to work with.

Several players are expected to come back from loan, some of who could get a slot or be allowed to leave too. Among those names include Martin Odegaard, Dani Ceballos, William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi.

Arsenal has a plethora of talent they can turn to, something that gives Arteta flexibility.

As for Willian, it was his wish to get a three-year deal that failed to push a contract extension with the Blues.

After one season, it will be interesting what the Brazilian will be looking for. But clearly, he needs to play on a team where his talent can be utilized to the fullest.

But there are constraints to consider. Thomas Tuchel has a lot of attacking options at his disposal, so adding the veteran footballer right now could be detrimental.

Willian would have to fight for playing time against the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount if he wants to crack the starting lineup.

Recall that last year, Inter Milan offered Willian a three-year offer but rejected it, the Telegraph reported.

The Brazilian wanted to stay in Europe at that time. Now, it will be interesting if he has had a change of heart.
