Chelsea is reportedly going to pursue a prolific striker in the January window to pair with Romelu Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku may not be the only big signing Chelsea will have this season.

Chelsea ended the past summer by successfully bringing back Lukaku to Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian immediately made his presence felt, scoring four goals in his first four matches for the Blues.

However, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is not content with having only one proven prolific striker on his squad.

Hence, the German has now informed the club’s board about his desire to land another center-forward in the January transfer window, per reputable transfer insider Ian McGarry.

“It is our information that he [Tuchel] has requested from the club that they recruit a striker in the January window,” McGarry. said on “The Transfer Window" podcast. “From what I’m told, there is no definite shortlist that’s been formulated as yet, but you can see the point that they’ve been heavily reliant on [Romelu] Lukaku in such a short space of time since he arrived back at the club for his second spell.”

Adding to Chelsea’s apparent woes in the frontline, Lukaku, who has gone seven club matches without scoring, incurred an ankle injury during the UEFA Champions League match against Malmo.

McGarry further revealed that the problems with injuries also contributed to Tuchel’s request to bring in more strikers.

“This has been significantly influenced now as well by the fact Romelu Lukaku will miss at least two games but maybe up to a month in the coming weeks, as well as Timo Werner being out as well,” the journalist stated.

At this point, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is the natural center-forward reportedly topping the list of Chelsea’s transfer targets.

Haaland’s link-up with the Blues even intensified after Tuchel apparently joked about agreeing to pair the Norwegian goal machine with Lukaku.

"I fell into a trap," Tuchel clarified in his comment about Haaland. "I got an award in Germany. I got an award from a newspaper and they asked me about a player. Normally I never, never speak about other players because simply I never, ever do.”

“I should have known better because [I was] making fun about it and being a nice guy and answering a question instead of 'no, I don't want to answer a question.’ I joke about a double striker with Romelu [Lukaku] in October and then it gets like we put in an offer. That was the context but OK, I should have known better."
