A Chicago man was arrested on Sunday and was identified as connected to a house party shooting where 13 victims were shot.

37-year-old Marciano White was arrested when he was seen leaving a house party in an Englewood neighborhood carrying a bag and tried to escape when officers apprehended him.

The house party was held as a memorial for a man who died earlier in the year.

According to NBC News, the Chicago Police Department said that White was accused of illegally using a weapon as a convicted felon and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

The 13 victims were wounded with varying degrees of injury with the youngest being 16 and the oldest 48.

The incident was regarded by authorities as an “isolated case” as there had been a significant drop in crime in Chicago for three years straight with the number of fatalities throughout the year to mid-December at 475, a 14% decrease from 549 people killed in 2018.

However, Chicago still has a higher number of violent crimes than New York and Los Angeles, both historically high-crime areas, with both states having 1,800 shooting victims combined this year while Chicago has 2,500 as reported by the Chicago Tribune.
