A 14-year-old girl in Florida installed cameras in her bedroom to record proof of the physical abuse she endured for days. Recording video evidence was the only choice she had because no one believed her, police said.

The unidentified victim reached out to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office with the evidence that led to the arrest of a 47-year-old man named Damon Becnel on Jan. 2, ABC News reported. The Sheriff’s office declined to reveal how the duo was potentially related.

The girl’s mother, who refused to reveal herself in order to safeguard her daughter’s identity, said the girl tried to report the alleged abuse for years, WPXI reported. The mother was not the custodian of the girl. She was living with Becnel’s best friend.

Becnel was seen in the video head-butting the girl, pulling her by the hair and shoving her onto the bed. He was also seen brandishing a knife at a dog and mouthing swear words. The girl was seen pleading him to stop all the while, according to the arrest report.

Becnel was charged with felony child abuse and tormenting an animal against a $4,000 bond. He bailed himself out of prison on Jan. 3.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 4. ABC News said they could not reach him for comments.
