As Chris Brown prepares to release his upcoming documentary, “Welcome to My Life,” his former girlfriend Rihanna has reportedly given her "blessings" to Brown to discuss the 2009 assault, Hollywood Life reported Monday, citing a source. The first trailer of the documentary was released Sunday and features several people from the industry, including Usher, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige and Mike Tyson.

The source told Hollywood Life: “She knew about the documentary. Chris told her he was considering doing a documentary and that he would be talking about that nightmare night. ... At first, she was surprised he wanted to go public with this, she cautioned him that he had to be mentally and emotionally prepared to go back and relive it. However, he reassured her that this was something good, something he wanted to do.”

The source continued: “She supported him, and still supports him. She’s proud of how far he’s come and understands his reason for going forward, protecting Royalty [Brown’s daughter]. Chris has her blessings.”

A release date for the documentary has not yet been decided. The trailer showed Brown as saying, according to People: “This is the first time I get to say anything,” referring to the assault in 2009.

He was also reportedly seen saying, “I went from being on top of the world, No. 1 songs, being kind of like America's sweetheart to being Public Enemy No. 1. ... I felt like a f------ monster. I was thinking about suicide, I wasn't sleeping, I barely ate ... If there was ever a doubt in your mind Chris Brown was done, he was finished ... I wouldn't bet on it.”

While there have been rumors over the past few months that Brown and the “Work” singer have got back together, there is no confirmation yet. However, another report by Hollywood Life on Monday, cited a source to say that had the “Back to Sleep” singer been like he is now, eight years ago, Rihanna would still be with him.

“She’s forgiven him and that’s all that matters. They’ve spoken. Rihanna knew what was up with his documentary and like she’s done most of her life, she supports it. Chris is working on himself and trying to be the best man and father he can,” the source reportedly said, adding: “If he has to keep going into the dark places of his life to get to the other side of the tunnel to see the light than so be it. Ri just wants him to know that he doesn’t have to continue to seek the media’s approval. She’s already forgiven him and to her, the two of them will always be cool.”
