Cleveland Browns Finally Find Taker For Baker Mayfield

The Carolina Panthers are on the cusp of getting a new starting quarterback following reports that they have struck a deal with the Cleveland Browns involving Baker Mayfield.

According to sources cited by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Browns will be receiving a fifth-round pick in exchange for the 27-year-old play-caller.

It was also added that the said pick could be converted to a potential fourth-rounder, but this will be based on playing time.

However, the deal remains pending as of this writing. Mayfield needs to undergo a physical in Carolina before the deal can be finalized.

As far as the financial part of the Mayfield deal, there were tweaks made. The top pick of the 2018 NFL Draft was due to make $18.8 million for the coming season.

But to help facilitate the trade, Mayfield reportedly agreed to a pay cut.

Hence, the Browns will be shouldering $10.5 million of his contract, while the Panthers would be paying him about $5 million.

Once all these are settled, Mayfield is likely to be the Panthers' new starting quarterback.

Once it is made official, Mayfield will ironically spring into action in Week 1 against the Browns.

As far as the Browns are concerned, it remains unclear as to who their starting quarterback will be.

Deshaun Watson is not a certainty, especially with word going around that he could be meted an indefinite suspension.

The 12th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft is awaiting his fate following the conclusion of the three-day hearing last week.

Judge Sue L. Robinson is expected to rule on any discipline only after the NFL and the NFL Players Association submit their post-hearing briefs.

According to a report from Cleveland.com, negotiations continue for a settlement.

NFL insider Dan Graziano bared that the league continues to insist on an indefinite suspension to protect against any information coming to light.

However, the NFL is reportedly willing to make Watson eligible to re-apply after 12 games rather than a full season.
