Week 1 of the 2022 college football season is finally here, and there are several big games on the schedule. Even this early in the year, a few matchups have serious implications for the College Football Playoff.

Saturday night's game between No. 5 Notre Dame and No. 2 Ohio State stands out as the biggest matchup on the Week 1 schedule. Both teams have aspirations of winning a national championship after finishing in the top-10 last season.

The betting odds suggest that the Buckeyes could win easily at home. Ohio State is a 17.5-point favorite against the Fighting Irish. Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud is the leading Heisman Trophy candidate after throwing for 4,435 yards, 44 touchdowns and six interceptions as a red-shirt freshman.

The battle between No. 11 Oregon and No. 3 Georgia also features two possible playoff contenders. The defending national champs are favored by 16.5 points over the Ducks. Dan Lanning makes his debut as Oregon's head coach after serving as Georgia's defensive coordinator for the last three seasons.

Despite losing to Georgia in the national championship game, Alabama is favored to win the SEC and national titles as the No. 1 team in the country. The Crimson Tide are massive favorites in their season debut, laying more than 40 points against visiting Utah State.

No. 8 Michigan, No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 14 USC are all favored by four scores. The Trojans will host Rice in Lincoln Riley's first game since leaving Oklahoma to coach at Southern California.
