Barnes & Noble weighs offer for controlling stake

Nearly nine months after bookseller Barnes & Noble Inc put itself up for auction, the lengthy process may have reached a turning point as a new offer from Liberty Media Corp is under consideration. Liberty Media is looking to purchase a 70 percent stake in Barnes & Noble, which announced on Thursday that the offer is valued at $17 per share. The deal would therefore exceed $1 billion.

New television series from The New York Times premieres May 23

In an effort to reach a new audience, The New York Times will create content for a new television series on NYC life, one of the city’s NYC Media television stations. NYC life can be viewed on channel 25 in New York City. The half-hour show, dubbed NYTV, will air Monday nights at 8:30 p.m. with the first show scheduled for May 23. The network also plans on making the series available online at nyc.gov/vod.

Apple, Sony cloud music service deal major blow to Google and Amazon

Apple and Sony Music Entertainment are nearing a deal that will allow licensed cloud-music services. Apple has made giant strides toward establishing their new music service by landing deals with major music labels. According to CNET, EMI Music and Warner Music Group has already signed on board the Apple cloud-music deal while Sony and Universal will be wrapping up soon.

New Jersey added 14,000 jobs in April

The number of jobs in New Jersey increased by 14,000 during the month of April, the state's Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced Thursday. It was the third consecutive month that the Garden State recorded job growth. The state added 13,400 private-sector jobs and 600 public jobs, while the unemployment rate remained 9.3 percent.
