  • Police arrested a drug dealer in England after he was spotted trying to discard class A drugs and two mobile phones

  • The Conor McGregor lookalike was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison

A lookalike of Conor McGregor from southeast England has been arrested after he sold drugs while impersonating the Irish mixed martial arts fighter, local police said.

Authorities arrested 34-year-old Mark Nye after he was pulled over on Feb. 11 for trying to discard class A drugs and two mobile phones he had with him, Surrey Police said in a statement released Friday.

Upon being questioned, Nye provided authorities with false details and told them his name was "Conor." A search yielded hundreds of business cards for "McGregor Enterprise" that promised the "best drops in Surrey."

Officers also discovered hundreds of messages in connection to Nye's drug dealing when they analyzed his phones.

Investigating officer PC Steve McGill was quoted in the statement as saying, "A search of the address Mark was staying at revealed a large amount of boric acid, a cutting agent which is used by dealers to cut drugs and can have serious health implications for users themselves."

The officer noted they also found a large cleaver by Nye's bed.

Nye pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was sentenced on April 9 to two years and nine months in prison at Guildford Crown Court.

Nye allegedly capitalized on his resemblance to McGregor and styled his hair and beard to look even more similar to the former UFC champion, the Irish Post reported.

Unlike Nye, McGregor, 32, has not served any jail time, but he has had several run-ins with the law that fit his "Notorious" nickname.

The UFC fighter was arrested in Corsica, France, in 2020 on charges of attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure. The case was dropped by French authorities for lack of evidence.

He was also arrested in 2019 after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Dublin, Ireland, hotel in 2018. A civil claim for damages was filed in High Court in January 2021 after prosecutors declined to pursue criminal charges against McGregor.

In 2019, McGregor also pleaded guilty to assaulting a man in a Dublin bar and was fined €1,000 ($1,116.) He was arrested in the same year for taking a fan's phone and smashing it to the ground. Charges were dropped following an out-of-court settlement.
