Fashion giant Chanel has canceled its latest fashion show in Beijing, China over growing coronavirus threats.

The fashion house released a statement, Tuesday, that it has postponed the event, which was scheduled to happen in May.

The French fashion house stated that it will be shifted to “a later and more appropriate moment.” Like Chanel, various companies have canceled their upcoming events and conferences.

“Considering the current situation and following the guidance of Chinese authorities, Chanel has decided to postpone its project of a replica of the Paris — 31 rue Cambon 2019/20 Métiers d'art collection in May in Beijing to a later and more appropriate moment,” a Chanel spokesperson said in a statement, via Business Insider.

As of Feb. 18, the death toll due to coronavirus stands at 1,868 and a total of 72,436 confirmed cases in China. Meanwhile, Liu Zhiming, the director of Wuchang Hospital, died Tuesday morning in Wuhan.

Liu passed away at 10:30 a.m. after the doctors failed to revive him. The news of 51-year-old Liu’s death was shared by the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission.

In a study released by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which observed 72,314 patient records, stated that 81 percent of the positive cases were in the mild category. Meanwhile, 13.8 percent were placed in severe and 4.7 percent were stated to be critical. Information on the rest of the case was missing, CNBC reported. The study also put people in their 60s and older in the high-risk category, based on the death rate due to coronavirus outbreak.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Japan reported 88 people aboard the Diamond Princess cruise liner have been confirmed cases of coronavirus. The total number of infected people on the luxury cruise ship rose to 542.

Elsewhere, the German investors are skeptical about investing in China. “ The feared negative effects of the Coronavirus epidemic in China on world trade have been causing a considerable decline of the ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany,” ZEW President Achim Wambach stated.
