“Criminal Minds” fans can expect Jennifer Love Hewitt to join the cast in the upcoming 10th season. Her character will appear in the season premiere in October, playing special agent Kate Callahan.

Kate is an experienced undercover agent and works with the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). The character might fill the shoes of Alex Blake (Jeanne Tripplehorn), who exited the series in last season’s finale.

In a statement from CBS, showrunner Erica Messer said, “Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season.”

"Criminal Minds" is giving Hewitt her first major role since getting married to Brian Hallisay and giving birth in November.

Hewitt is very familiar with working on television. She has had leading roles on “Ghost Whisperer” and “Party of Five.” Her last series, “The Client List,” was canceled in November. Though Lifetime never gave an official reason for cancelation, it was reported there was a feud between Hewitt and producers.

Allegedly, Hewitt wanted more screentime for Hallisay, her former fiancé and father of her child. She wanted their pregnancy and relationship to be written into their characters’ storylines. Lifetime disagreed with the actress, but low ratings also probably factored into the show’s cancelation. The series finale only had about half the viewers of the made-for-TV movie that it was based on.

"Criminal Minds" Season 10 will premiere on Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS. Are you excited for Jennifer Love Hewitt’s return to television? Sound off in the comments!
