  • Marcus Rashford provides an update on his recovery
  • Rashford is expected to make his return after the next international break
  • He will likely add intensity in the club's attack alongside Cristiano Ronaldo

A returning Manchester United striker is edging closer to joining Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time this season.

Marcus Rashford has been training at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground for several weeks now but has yet to take part in contact training sessions with his teammates.

Providing a major update on his return, a “happy” Rashford said that after his doctor’s appointment on “Friday,” he will learn whether he’ll be able to join Manchester United in “contact training.”

“Happy Monday,” Rashford wrote on Twitter. “I see the doctor on Friday for a consultation. All being well, I will get the green to join in with contact training again.”

Last month, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already bared that Rashford has been responding well in his recovery, especially in the mental aspect.

“He (Rashford) seemed very happy with the surgery,” Solskjaer told Manchester United’s official website of Rashford ahead of his side's trip to Southampton. “He’s working in the gym, we see him every day, so he’ll be chomping at the bit when it gets nearer to the time when he can come back."

“Of course, any time you’re off with an injury is a hard time but it’s also time to reflect and find yourself again," the coach added. "That’s what we hope is going to happen to Marcus.”

In his latest update about Rashford, Solskjaer divulged that the earliest possible target for the forward’s return is when the Red Devils face Leicester City on October 16, possibly after the next international break.

“I don’t think we’ll see Marcus until after the international break,” the manager told the club’s official website before the Carabao Cup match against West Ham United earlier this month.

“It’s going well. They’ve worked really hard, both of them. [Though] Alex [Telles] is a bit further on than Marcus.”

It was an early season shoulder injury that saw Rashford being hindered in his last campaign with Manchester United.

Nevertheless, the prolific striker still continued playing while in pain to help the club endure a tough 2020-21 season.

Rashford then extended his dilemma when he decided to take part in England’s campaign in the Euro 2020 this past summer.

After the tournament, the Englishman went straight to surgery for the said shoulder problem.

Finishing the last season with an impressive tally of 22 goals and 14 assists across all competitions for Manchester United, Rashford is expected to co-star with Ronaldo in the front once he finally make his comeback.
