KEY POINTS

  • Pistols greatly benefit from high critical hit modifiers
  • The weapons are excellent for close-range precision shooting
  • Take survivability perks or stats to compensate for low effective health

In most other games, pistols are usually thrown aside as weak backup weapons that are only ever used in emergencies. In “Cyberpunk 2077,” pistols can be used as V’s primary weapons to devastating effect, often placing them higher in terms of sheer DPS output than some of the other weapon archetypes.

Of course, the guns alone won’t be enough. Players will need to invest their hard-earned skill points into a few select passives that can make any handgun a beast in combat. Here’s a rundown of the skills and equipment needed to make this build work.

Mandatory Skills and Attributes

The build mostly revolves around stacking the stats found in the Handguns skill tree through passives, equipment and other buffs. Players will want to pour most of their early attribute points into the Reflex stat first for extra Critical Hit Chance, then the Cool stat for extra Critical Damage.

Next, obtain the following skills:

  • High Noon
  • Desperado
  • Rio Bravo
  • A Fistful of Eurodollars
  • Attritional Fire
  • Wild West
  • Westworld
  • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

These will all greatly boost the damage output of pistols so long as players are consistently hitting headshots or critical hits. This build will mostly shine in the mid to late game where the player’s Critical Hit Chance and Critical Damage stats are high enough to make the most out of these perks.

Secondary Skills

Cold Blood is a great skill to pair with this build because of the buffs it grants after scoring a kill, which can lead to long and effortless killstreaks in dangerous situations. Make sure to grab this early (if at all) to unlock the rest of its bonuses earlier.

Other skills that increase survivability are recommended for players who are die a lot.

Recommended Equipment

Any handgun will work with this build, but Power handguns with high crit modifiers are preferred. Revolvers are especially powerful with this build since their high damage per shot can often take enemies out with a single hit to the head.

The same idea applies to armor. Find the ones with Critical Hit Chance or Critical Damage to get the most value from this build. If survivability is an issue, replace a few armor pieces with ones that have plenty of health, shield or Mitigation.
