  • Rivian is set to commence production of Tesla Cybertruck's rival Rivian R1T pickup truck, and R1S SUV recently showcased the R1T executing a full 360-degree turn from a standstill
  • Rivian calls it Quad Motor Tank Turn and will be available on both the Rivian R1T and the R1S
  • Rivian R1T and R1S are some of the most awaited electric vehicles since Tesla and has pulled investments from industry giants like Ford and Amazon

Aside from the Tesla Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T is another highly anticipated electric vehicle. Recently, the electric vehicle startup, which is setting up production for both R1T and R1S, showcased some tricks that the upcoming electric vehicles could do to get the fans excited. In a new video, Rivian showed how the R1T makes a full 360-degree turn from a standstill.

Amy Mast, the Rivian spokesperson, explained through Business Insider, how the new feature of Rivian R1T works. "The vehicle's four motors independently control torque at each wheel, allowing torque to be applied in opposite directions on each side of the vehicle," Mast shared. The truck estimates how much friction there is between the tires and the surface beneath them and applies torque to each wheel to produce a "controlled rotation," the spokesperson added.

The Quad Motor Tank Turn feature would be available on Both Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S. Both electric vehicles might arrive in the late part of 2020. The Rivian R1T might have a base price of $ 69,000, while the Rivian R1S could have a starting price of $72,500. The electric vehicles could arrive earlier than its closest rival, Tesla Cybertruck, which is anticipated to enter into production in 2021.

The electric vehicle startup is arguably one of the highly anticipated electric vehicle brands aside from Tesla. It has attracted investments from heavyweights like Ford, Cox Automotive, and Amazon, to name a few. Recently, the company scored a $1.3 billion investment led by T. Rowe Price. With giant companies in the background, Rivian is given the opportunity to execute a successful launch.

In a recent interview, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe shared his confidence in the company's upcoming electric vehicles. "On-road, the vehicles are really exceptional — exceeding what you'd see in a performance SUV. Off-road, they're really transformational. They're really good," the CEO told Business Insider transportation reporter Mark Matousek.

Additionally, the CEO believed that Rivian could beat BMW, Audi, and Mercedez Benz. While these German automakers are not into building electric passenger trucks, they are all currently in different stages of development on their respective electric vehicles for the US consumers.
