“Dancing With the Stars” Season 23 Theories
Find out which celebrities could be earning a perfect score from your favorite “Dancing With the Stars” judges when Season 23 premieres this fall. ABC

It’s that time of year when “Dancing With the Stars” fans start contemplating which celebrities will take a break from the red carpet to grace the ballroom of the hit ABC series. But until the official Season 23 cast is announced on Tuesday, Aug. 30, we have our theories of which celebs we’ll be seeing on the dance floor.

With the 2016 Rio Olympics underway, it wouldn’t surprise us to see a gold medalist shaking it out with the hopes of taking home another award: the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. Recently, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, who currently holds 23 gold medals, shared his thoughts on trading his Speedo in for a bedazzled ensemble. “I haven’t really been know for my dancing,” Phelps told Us Weekly, adding that he knows all his fellow Olympians who have competed like Apollo Ohno and Natalie Coughlin. “They said they’ve enjoyed it and had a blast. I won’t say I’m ruling anything out, who knows?”

It would be the perfect timing for the athlete to join the “DWTS” cast considering Phelps plans on hanging up his swimming goggles after the 2016 games. Phelps confirmed during an interview with “Today” show host Matt Lauer that he won’t be racing during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. “I’ll be there watching, cheering people on. I won’t be in the pool,” he said. Maybe he’ll be in the ballroom instead … alongside another fan-favorite Olympian! Two-time Mirror Ball champion Mark Ballas took to Twitter to try and persuade Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez to join the Season 23 cast.

“I absolutely adore @lzhernandez02 just gorgeous #starpower #needadanceteacher?” he asked, adding a winking face to his tweet.

But it appears that Hernandez wouldn’t need much convincing to join the series! During a Q&A with NBC, the gold medalist revealed that “DWTS” is one of her favorite shows along with “The Voice” and “Law and Order.” Talk about a match made in dance heaven!

It’s also possible that Season 23 of “DWTS” could feature a “General Hospital” actress! Emma Samms recently posted a cryptic tweet stating that she had an announcement to share with fans. “I have some good news but I can’t tell you yet which is annoying. Though probably not as annoying as this tweet. Sorry,” she wrote.

Tom Bergeron, who co-hosts the long running series, found the mysterious tweet charming. “You’re such a tease!” he responded, hinting that the soap drama actress could be shimmying across the dance floor in the fall.

Which celebrities do you think will join the Season 23 cast of “Dancing With the Stars” when the show returns Monday, Sept. 12, on ABC?
