“Dancing With the Stars” Season 23 winner Laurie Hernandez recently recounted what it was like meeting one of her biggest idols, Beyoncé.

Hernandez and some of the members of the U.S. Women’s gymnastics “Final Five” team presented the award for best female video at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 28, 2016. When they opened the card and read the name of Beyoncé, they were all ecstatic because they knew she would come to the stage and say hi to them at least. But Hernandez and her teammates received more than a smile from the “Crazy In Love” singer. “And then she came up, she hugged all of us and we were looking at each other, like, ‘This is Beyoncé!!!’” she told People.

Other than Beyoncé, Hernandez also had the opportunity to meet rapper Kanye West. During their encounter, the gold medalist was able to make West smile. At the time, he was with his wife, Kim Kardashian, so Hernandez and her fellow gymnasts also had the chance to meet the reality TV star.

Since winning the mirror ball trophy in November 2016, Hernandez has joined the “Dancing With the Stars” pros in their recent tour around the U.S. When the tour concludes, Hernandez will start promoting her book, “I Got This: To Gold and Beyond.” With regards to her book title, the athlete used to tell herself “I Got This” before she performed her routine. This is why the publishers decided to use this as the title.

While speaking with North Jersey, Hernandez shared one of her most favorite stories from “I Got This: To Gold And Beyond.” According to her, the “tissue story” reminds her that she’s got her family with her no matter what obstacle she has to face. “They are always there saying, ‘You can do it’ and ‘We believe in you.’ To have the support, it’s the extra piece,” she said.
