Former NFL star Darren Sharper has denied allegations that he raped two women in separate Los Angeles hotels.

Sharper, 38, was arrested in Los Angeles last Friday in connection with a pair of alleged sexual assaults, which occurred in October 2013 and January 2014, TMZ reports. But sources connected with the NFL Network analyst insist that he is innocent of the felony charges.

According to the sources, Sharper has only met one of his accusers, and while they did engage in a sexual encounter, it was purely consensual, TMZ reports. The former Green Bay Packers star reportedly claims that he has never met the other alleged rape victim.

The sources add that Sharper met one of the women in a Los Angeles nightclub and that they went back to a hotel room to “hook up,” TMZ reports. However, the encounter was consensual.

Meanwhile, a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson confirmed on Saturday that Sharper is also being investigated for a separate sexual assault that allegedly occurred on Sept. 24, ESPN reports.

Sharper was released from a Los Angeles County jail last week on $200,000 bond, the website reports. Despite his claim of innocence, the NFL Network announced in a statement that Sharper has been “suspended without pay until further notice.” He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 14.

A 14-year NFL veteran, Sharper spent his career as a member of the Packers, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints. He compiled 63 career interceptions and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2000s.
