A disturbing trend has emerged in Salem in the last few years where an unexpected twosome tends to crash the New Year’s Eve party and set the course of how the drama in Salem will unfold over the course of the following year. Now, it will happen once more as the people of Salem prepare to welcome in a new year on the Tuesday, Dec. 31 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

While the ushering in of the year prior is something fans missed out on because of a time jump, there was a lot of drama that unfolded at the parties that took place in the years prior. As Salem prepared to usher in 2018 and the start of Chad’s (Billy Flynn) reign as CEO of DiMera, they were shocked by Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) return and the reveal of Stefan’s (Tyler Christopher/Brandon Barash) existence. In 2019, the new year started off with the reveal that Eve (Kassie DePaiva) had come back to town with a once-again alive Jack (Matthew Ashford) in tow. Now, someone else will follow in that tradition—and once again turn people’s lives upside down.

“Julie and Doug’s New Year’s Eve party is crashed by an unexpected couple,” spoilers reveal.

Considering all of the people who have secretly returned to Salem in recent days, the couple could be anyone. The most likely twosome is Lani (Sal Stowers) and Kristen (Stacy Haiduk), who are back to get revenge on Gabi (Camila Banus). However, they aren’t the only ones who could surprise everyone.

There has been a lot of speculation that Stefano is back in town again, with no one aware that he is masquerading as Steve (Stephen Nicholls), who also went MIA a while back. Now, with more suspicions than ever being aroused by the alleged return of both men, those who would be affected most by their returns will continue wondering where they are and what they’re up to—and if they had anything to do with the mystery person who played Santa at the hospital Christmas party.

“Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), Justin (Wally Kurth), Marlena (Deidre Hall) and John (Drake Hogestyn) share theories about who might’ve been the mystery Santa Claus,” spoilers state.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
