The entertainment industry lost quite a few gems in 2017. Though the year wasn't in the same league as 2016, it was the last year for many luminaries, including actress Mary Tyler Moore, Barbara Hale, Chelsea Brown or Playboy legend Hugh Hefner and actor and singer David Cassidy.

Although these people are not here anymore to grace us with their presence on film, stage or the sporting arena, these celebrities have left us with plenty of golden moments and memorable quotes to remember them by.

Check out the quotes by some of those who departed in 2017 below:

1. It's perfectly clear to me that religion is a myth. It's something we have invented to explain the inexplicable. My religion and the spiritual side of my life come from a sense of connection to the humankind and nature on this planet and in the universe. I am in overwhelming awe of it all: It is so fantastic, so complex, so beyond comprehension. What does it all mean — if it has any meaning at all? But how can it all exist if it doesn't have some kind of meaning? I think anyone who suggests that they have the answer is motivated by the need to invent answers because we have no such answers. – Hugh Hefner

2. Take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave. - Mary Tyler Moore on the importance of pain

3. That was my challenge as an actress: to be a necessary part of the office without being too aggressive. – Barbara Hale

4. As I got more successful, I felt it was more incumbent upon me to help the other people. I did more and more and the more I did the more I wanted. – Monty Hall

5. I traveled all over for about 50 years, I love a lot of places and I've been a lot of places, (but) I just don't care to leave home. – Fats Domino

6. Racism may be as systemic as it always was. It is the great problem of America. It’s the one stumbling block that I don’t believe was ever smoothed over. - Robert Guillaume on Racism

7. It's not about the fame and the money because if you do good work all that stuff comes. – David Cassidy

8. You've got to try a little kindness, yes show a little kindness Just shine your light for everyone to see. And if you try a little kindness, Then you'll overlook the blindness Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets. – Glenn Campbell

9. We are all racing towards death. No matter how many great, intellectual conclusions we draw during our lives, we know they're all only man-made, like God. I begin to wonder where it all leads. What can you do, except do what you can do as best you know how. – John Hurt

10. I have a loyalty that runs in my bloodstream when I lock into someone or something, you can't get me away from it because I commit that thoroughly. That's in friendship, that's a deal, that's a commitment. Don't give me a paper - I can get the same lawyer who drew it up to break it. But if you shake my hand, that's for life. – Jerry Lewis
