  • Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti is out once again due to another knee injury
  • Umtiti hinted at his current situation on social media
  • Antoine Griezmann is still struggling to be in best form for Barcelona

A Barcelona star may have hinted at his current situation with the club after being sidelined by yet another injury.

Samuel Umtiti was appointed by Barcelona mainly to strengthen its defense. However, the once-promising defender failed to deliver due to a series of devastating injuries. And as the Catalans face the controversies surrounding the club, Umtiti has expressed his thoughts on social media.

Shortly after being ruled out once again due to a knee injury, Umtiti posted a heartbreaking message on his Instagram Stories

“I wish I could go back to the past, not to change things, but to relive the time when I was happy and didn’t know it,” Umtiti wrote in the post obtained by Barca Blaugranes.

Barcelona confirmed Friday (July 3) that Umtiti will undergo “conservative treatment” for his resurging knee injury, but the club has not yet plotted a timeline on his recovery. Though it is not clear when the defender will be able to return, AS reported that Barcelona is “fearing the worst.”

The report also confirmed that Umtiti is out for a “minimum of five weeks,” which could mean that he will miss Barcelona’s five remaining La Liga games and will not make an appearance for the rest of the season.

This could also see Umtiti missing out on Barcelona’s final league game against Alaves on July 19. The Catalans will then resume their Champions League campaign against Napoli on Aug. 7 or 8 either at the Camp Nou or in Portugal.

Aside from Umtiti, Barcelona’s attacking star Antoine Griezmann has also come under fire from fans as the club seeks to retain their La Liga supremacy. Griezmann has not been in his best form since joining Barcelona last summer.

Most expected that he would significantly contribute after the three-month-long break due to the pandemic. However, the Frenchman has reportedly failed to reach the club’s expectations.

Some reports have claimed that Barcelona's new signing, Martin Braithwaite, could possibly take over Griezmann’s role in the near future if the latter continues to have a difficult time adjusting to his attacking tasks.

Despite this, Griezmann seems to have maintained a good relationship with his teammates. While there are talks of tension between Griezmann and Barcelona captain Lionel Messi, Barca center-back Clement Lenglet insisted that there is really no problem with the former Atletico Madrid star.

Lenglet revealed that Griezmann maintains a good relationship with the team in the dressing room. He is also optimistic that Barcelona fans will be cheering for his teammate once more in the future.
