Derek Carr is the latest quarterback to sign a contract extension, NFL Network reports. The new deal gives Carr one of the league’s highest salaries and assures that he won’t be traded from the Las Vegas Raiders anytime soon.

Carr’s extension adds three years and $121.5 million to his contract, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The quarterback is now owed $141.3 million through 2025, including $100 million in salary over the next three seasons.

The extension reportedly includes a no-trade clause.

With a $35.3 average annual salary and a $40.5 million average salary in new money, Carr becomes the NFL’s fifth-highest paid player. The Raiders quarterback moves ahead of Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott, who are signed to contracts that include a $40 million average annual value.

Prior to inking the extension, Carr made $25 million per year. Carr was tied with Tom Brady and Myles Garrett as the NFL’s 19th-highest-paid player.

The no-trade clause is an important aspect of the deal. Each year, Carr seems to find himself in trade rumors. Now, it appears that the quarterback can’t be dealt unless he gives Las Vegas permission to do so.

Carr is arguably in the best position to succeed since being drafted by the Raiders in 2014. Early in the offseason, Las Vegas traded for Davante Adams, one of the best receivers in football. The Raiders are coming off their second playoff appearance in nearly two decades.

In the 2021 NFL season, Carr threw for a career-high 4,804 yards. The quarterback was considered to be a very early MVP candidate until Las Vegas struggled in the middle of the season. Carr finished with 23 touchdown passes, 14 interceptions and a 94.0 passer rating.

Carr made the Pro Bowl each year from 2015-to 2017 but hasn’t been selected since. Entering his ninth NFL season, the quarterback is still seeking his first playoff win.

The Raiders are given the worst odds to win a very competitive AFC West. Carr is viewed as the division’s worst quarterback.

Carr has played all but two regular-season games since 2014.
