KEY POINTS

  • The anniversary update will add a number of new playable content for "Destiny 2"
  • Highlights include a new dungeon, a new activity and the return of Gjallarhorn
  • The update will go live on Dec. 7

The next major patch for “Destiny 2” is only a few weeks away from release, and players have a lot to be excited for once it actually goes live.

Bungie’s 30th-anniversary celebration will include a mid-season refresh of sorts for “Destiny 2,” which will be much needed since “Season of the Lost” isn’t due to end until the release of the “Witch Queen” expansion. November will be a relatively quiet month for the game, but the big December patch will have a few surprises in store for fans.

Here’s a quick round-up of everything that’s coming in the patch.

Free 6-Player Activity

A new activity similar to Astral Alignment will be available for all players after the December patch goes live. This new activity will be the Dares of Eternity, and it will revolve around the Nine, a mysterious group of god-like beings that serve a central role in the universe of “Destiny.”

Treasure-Themed Dungeon

Players who purchase the anniversary pack will have access to a new dungeon that has its own unique loot pool. This dungeon will be set somewhere in the Cosmodrome and will have a loot or treasure-focused theme, which is a throwback to the old loot caves of the first “Destiny” game.

Among the new loot coming to the anniversary pack is a set of armor that shares the same motif as the Thorn exotic hand cannon.

Gjallarhorn Returns

Perhaps the most exciting addition to “Destiny 2” in the coming patch is the exotic Gjallarhorn rocket launcher, which was considered to be the best DPS weapon in the original “Destiny.” For those who don’t know, the Gjallarhorn has the Wolfpack Rounds perk that shoots rockets that split into smaller tracking missiles.

Weapons And Ornaments

The patch will also introduce a number of items from Bungie’s past games like “Marathon” and possibly “Halo.” A full armor ornament set from “Marathon” will be added to the game as well as a unique Bungie Streetwear set for Guardians who want to up their fashion game. Additionally, a few more “Destiny 1” weapons like the Eyasluna hand cannon and the Thousand-Yard Stare sniper rifle will return soon.

Other items include exotic ships and sparrows and a few unique shaders, emotes, emblems and more.

The update will go live on Dec. 7.
