  •  Lil Wayne and Kodak Black might get a presidential pardon from Donald Trump
  • The president is expected to announce his final pardon list on Jan. 19
  • Wayne and Black were charged for possession of weapons

Rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black could soon walk away as free men since President Donald Trump could be thinking of pardoning both artists before he leaves the office on Jan. 20.

The outgoing president might give pardons to a handful of celebrities who have supported him during his presidency, Bloomberg first reported. According to the outlet, Wayne and Black might be the only big names in the celebrity world who could make it to the list of people possibly getting a pardon from Trump.

In November 2020, the “Sucker For Pain” hitmaker was charged in Florida with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, a federal offense that could see him jailed for up to a decade. The incident took place in 2019 when police officers found a gold-plated handgun stuffed in his luggage.

Apart from that, the rapper had cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, marijuana, and painkillers, along with $25,938 in cash, inside his bag.

“There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it. There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person. The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm,” Howard Srebnick, Wayne’s lawyer, said in a statement.

On the other hand, Black was sentenced to almost four years in prison after pleading guilty to weapon charges. The 23-year-old artist admitted that he gave false background information of himself to buy four guns. The rapper was arrested moments before his performance at Miami’s Rolling Loud Festival.

Black previously promised to donate $1 million to charity if Trump gives him a presidential pardon, according to NME. This wasn’t the first time that the “Zeze” hitmaker reached out to the outgoing president.

In September 2020, a team of lawyers contacted the president to ask about the possibility of giving Black a presidential pardon because his punishment was unfair and he had suffered abuse while in prison, TMZ first reported.

Trump has pardoned more than 45 people last year, including Charles Kushner and Roger Stone.
