A drunken man had sex with his 15-year-old daughter after mistaking her for his wife, a Hong Kong court heard Monday.

The man, whose name was not revealed, returned home “stinking of alcohol” on March 22, 2018. He then crawled into his daughter’s bed and had sex with her thinking it was his wife. The man immediately stopped on realizing the mistake.

During investigation, the girl told police that she had realized her father had mistaken her for her mother but was unable to stop him. The court heard Monday that during a psychological assessment, the girl said she had forgiven her father and that she had no grudges against him. The girl, however, said she was angry with a social worker who reported the case without her consent, the South China Morning Post reported.

According to an impact report read in court, the girl accused the social worker of making her feel guilty about splitting her family, which had four members including her elder brother.

During previous trials, the man was given a chance to plead guilty to charges of incest, which carried a lesser jail term. However, the man had refused to accept it. On Monday, the man told the court he would plead guilty to any charge in order to protect his wife and daughter from this ordeal. He pleaded guilty to rape.

In a similar incident in January, a Denmark man was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for having sex with his 20-year-old daughter mistaking her for his wife. The man said he invited his daughter for his wedding and took her to the bridal suite after she got very intoxicated. He returned to the room an hour later and his wife too joined him. He then slept between the two women. The court documents suggested that the man then forced himself on his daughter, who was unable to defend herself since she was very drunk.
