KEY POINTS

  • Dustin Johnson is the world's top male golfer
  • He is among the top five highest-earning golfers of all time
  • Johnson has tested positive for COVID-19

Dustin Johnson has a net worth of $50 million and is among the highest-earning golfers of all time. However, the athlete is facing one big hurdle -- testing positive for COVID-19.

The 36-year-old recently tested positive for the coronavirus. This development prompted the top-ranked golfer to pull out of this week's PGA Tour event, the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, per CNN.

The PGA Tour was suspended in March due to the pandemic but returned to action in June. It remains to be seen if Johnson will lose his no. 1 spot as a result of missing tournaments. At least 15 golfers have contracted the coronavirus since June.

Johnson currently sits atop the World Golf Rankings. He last held the top ranking in May 2019, when he was unseated by Brooks Koepka. According to Golf Channel, Johnson is the fifth player to have occupied the no. 1 spot this year. He snatched the position back from Jon Rahm in August after winning The Northern Trust. In 2017, he held the top spot for 64 weeks.

The Columbia, South Carolina native is not only the best male golfer right now, but he is also one of the highest earners in the history of the sport.

Johnson’s total tournament prize money of $70 million, plus the $15 million he pocketed from his 2020 FedEx Cup title victory, is only behind Tiger Woods’ $120 million career earnings and Phil Mickelson’s $92 million, Celebrity Net Worth reported.

However, Johnson is considered the fifth highest-earning golf player of all time as FedEx Cup money is reportedly not counted as PGA tour winnings. According to ESPN, Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh still outrank him in terms of career earnings.

Johnson has proven that he is a winner on and off the golf course. In 2017, he earned $11 million from endorsement deals and has represented brands such as BodyArmor, New Era, TaylorMade, Hublot, NetJets and Adidas.

His total earnings for that year was $27.6 million, which was enough to make him the 48th highest-paid athlete in Forbes’ 2017 list.

The former Hyundai Tournament of Champions winner is into real estate investing, buying and selling properties for a profit. He owns a mansion in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, that carries a price tag of $5 million.

In 2016, Johnson sold a different property located in North Palm Beach for $3.8 million. The following year, he bought a house for less than $3 million, a big difference from the original $4.5 million price tag of the property.

On the personal side, Johnson is engaged to Paulina Gretzky, and they share two children together.
