Dylan O'Brien is opening up about the reason why he won't be part of the movie revival of his hit TV show "Teen Wolf."

O'Brien, who catapulted to fame after playing Stiles Stilinski on MTV's "Teen Wolf," got candid about his decision not to return for Paramount+'s feature-length follow-up of the series during a recent interview with Variety.

"It was a difficult decision. A lot went into it. The show couldn't be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did, and so many people there are extremely dear to me. It was something I was trying to make work, but it all happened very fast," O'Brien told the outlet while promoting his new movie "The Outfit."

"We didn't really know that it was happening, and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show," he added. "We were trying to figure it out."

The "Maze Runner" star explained that his decision not to return ultimately boiled down to his belief that the series was "left in a really good place for me, and I still want to leave it there."

"I wish them well, and I'm going to watch it the first night it comes out," O'Brien said. "I hope it f---ing kicks a--, but I'm not going to be in it."

Loosely based on the 1985 movie of the same name, "Teen Wolf" ran for six seasons from 2011 to 2017. The series follows Scott (Tyler Posey), a high-school student who is bitten by a werewolf and must cope with its effects on him, his friends and his family.

The "Teen Wolf" movie was announced last year. Posey confirmed the news via Instagram on Sept. 24, 2021, the exact date the last episode of the series aired on MTV back in 2017.

"A full moon rises in Beacon Hills, and with it a terrifying evil has emerged," the official description of the movie read, according to Entertainment Weekly. "The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes and every other shapeshifter in the night."

"But only a Werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an Alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they've ever faced," the description continued.

Most of the original cast members, including Posey, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Crystal Reed, Orny Adams, Linden Ashby, J.R. Bourne, Seth Gilliam, Colton Haynes, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio and Dylan Sprayberry, will be returning for Paramount+'s movie reboot.

However, a number of "Teen Wolf" fans are still disappointed that one of the most popular characters in the series won't be appearing in the upcoming movie adaptation.

"My heart just shattered hearing @dylanobrien won’t be in the 'Teen Wolf' movie. Baby, please, I need you in that," one person tweeted.

"I will still watch the 'Teen Wolf' movie without Dylan O’Brien, but I’m not happy about it," another Twitter user wrote.

"It’s confirmed that Dylan O’Brien won’t be in the new 'Teen Wolf' movie, and now I don’t even want to see it," a third fan wrote.

"He should have come back or done a cameo," a different user suggested.

"Teen Wolf" creator Jeff Davis will write and executive produce the film. O'Brien's former co-stars Arden Cho and Tyler Hoechlin are not currently attached to the project, Variety earlier reported.

Paramount+ has not yet announced a release date for the "Teen Wolf" movie.
