Millions of Muslims around the world are celebrating Eid al-Adha, the holiday marking the end of the annual hajj to the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca. The day, which is also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is marked in major Muslim nations on Tuesday and in some parts will be celebrated on Wednesday.

On this day, Muslims typically slaughter an animal like a goat, sheep or cow. One-third of the meat is supposed to be consumed by the family, one-third is to be shared with friends or neighbors and the third portion to be donated to the needy.

This day is marked to remember the time when Prophet Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son but God spared his life, replacing him with an animal.

Here are some quotes and greetings to share with friends and family on this day.

1. You cannot guide those you would like to but God guides those He wills. He has best knowledge of the guided. [Holy Quran (28: 56)]

2. Eid al-Adha Mubarak: It is not their meat nor their blood, that reaches Allah: It is your piety that reaches him: he has thus made them subject to you, that ye may glorify Allah for his guidance to you and proclaim the good news to all who do right.

3. It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him. Thus have We made them subject to you that you may magnify Allah for His Guidance to you. And give glad tidings (O Muhammad) to the Muhsinum (doers of good). [Surah Al-Hajj (22:37)]

4. Whoever desires to meet his Lord, he should do good deeds and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord.

5. He is the One GOD; the Creator, the Initiator, the Designer. To Him belong the most beautiful names. Glorifying Him is everything in the heavens and the earth. He is the Almighty, Most Wise. [59:24]

6. May the magic of this Eid bring lots of happiness in your life and may you celebrate it with all your close friends and may it fill your heart with wonders. Eid Mubarak!

7. And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as Mujrimoon (criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) [Hud (11:52)]

8. On the Holy occasion of Eid al-Adha that celebrates the Hajj... May you be filled with happiness and may every step of your journey through life be blessed by Allah. Eid Mubarak!

9. In every shared smile and laughter; In every silent prayer answered; In every opportunity that comes your way – may Allah bless you immensely! Eid Mubarak!

10. On this holy and joyous occasion, may the blessings of almighty Allah come down and rest upon your shoulders and upon those whom you love and treasure and may you enjoy a very happy Eid this year and in the years to come.

11. May Allah’s blessings be with you today and always. Eid Ul Adha Mubarak!
