KEY POINTS

  • Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi will soon be neighbors with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
  • DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased Dennis Miller's $49 million estate in Montecito
  • The purchase is one of the most expensive deals in the compound

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi purchased a luxurious property in Montecito where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle currently reside.

DeGeneres and de Rossi became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's soon-to-be neighbors after purchasing Dennis Miller's $49 million estate in Montecito compound. It is one of the priciest deal ever sold in the area, The Wall Street Journal first reported.

Comedian and political commentator Miller and his wife, Carolyn Espley-Miller, a former model, have lived on the estate since 2006, according to Page Six.

The property sits on over 4.3 acres of land and features a 9,000 square-feet South African Cape Dutch-style main building, a guesthouse, a pool house, a detached garage and a barn designed by architect Tom Kundig.

There are scarce details about the estate, but some photos from the inside of the home can be seen on Espley-Miller's Instagram account like the high ceilings, an open-plan kitchen and black and white checkerboard-style marble floors. It also has glass windows that show lush gardens with palm trees.

DeGeneres and de Rossi are longtime property owners who are also into flipping houses. They have a reputation for moving frequently. In fact, they just sold a five-bed home for $33.3 million that they bought for $27 million two years ago, Daily Mail reported.

Since DeGeneres and de Rossi have just purchased a property near the Sussexes, many are convinced that they would be neighbors. "The Ellen Show" host and former "Suits" star are good friends. In September 2019, DeGeneres visited Prince Harry and Markle when she and her wife flew to London.

“Here’s a sentence I thought I’d never say, but I spent the afternoon with Prince Harry and Meghan,” DeGeneres said.

“I can’t tell you how sweet they are, but the most important thing is I got to hold Archie, little Archie. I fed Archie, I held Archie. He weighs 15 pounds, which is, the exchange rate, is $17 here. He looks like Harry — and he had more hair than I did at the time.”

In 2017, Markle also shared that she adopted her first rescue pet, Bogart, at the behest of DeGeneres. They met at a dog shelter and at the time, Markle was still undecided on whether she should take Bogart or not, but her conversation with the TV talk show host made her decide to bring the pup home.

“Now, I don’t now her, but Ellen goes ‘Is that your dog?’ And I said, ‘No,’ and she’s like, ‘You have to take that dog.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m deciding.’ And she’s like, ‘Rescue the dog!’” Markle told Best Health.

"It’s sort of like if Oprah tells you to do something. I’m sitting there holding him and she’s like ‘Have you thought of a name for him yet?’ And I said, ‘Well, I think I’d name him Bogart,’ and she’s like ‘You’re taking the dog home.’"
