  • Romelu Lukaku got injured during Inter Milan's latest Champions League match
  • He scored a brace to help Inter beat Monchengladbach
  • He could also miss Inter's upcoming Serie A game vs Parma

Romelu Lukaku, who moved from Manchester United to Inter Milan in the summer of 2019, could miss the Italian side’s upcoming Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday (Nov. 3).

The Nerazzurri club confirmed Thursday that Lukaku had suffered a thigh injury after the striker underwent an MRI scan following Inter Milan’s latest Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk, where the player sustained the injury.

"Romelu Lukaku underwent an MRI scan at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano this morning [ following a problem that arose during Tuesday's Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk. The scans showed that he has suffered a strain in his left thigh. His condition will be monitored daily," Inter Milan said in an official statement.

The 27-year-old Lukaku is mostly out of Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Parma on Saturday, and he will most likely miss his side’s trip to the Spanish capital to face off 13-time champions Real Madrid in the 2020-21 Champions League.

Lukaku’s absence at Santiago Bernabeu would be a blow to the Nerazzurri boss, Antonio Conte, as each of his side's opening Group B matches against Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar have been a draw.

While Inter Milan are currently at No. 3 in Group B with two points, same as second-placed Gladbach, Shakhtar are the table-toppers with four points and Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid are at the bottom of the table, having collected only one point so far.

Lukaku has scored seven goals in as many competitive matches in the ongoing season, carrying his momentum from the previous season, which was a record-breaking debut campaign at the San Siro side.

The Belgian national had netted 34 goals in 51 matches across all competitions in 2019-20 for Inter Milan following his $90 million-move from Manchester United.

He equaled the record held by Brazilian legend Ronaldo for most goals scored in his debut campaign with the Serie A club.
